The aesthetic of the film was the fruit of a very vivid fever-induced dream. Though most of the film sticks closely to its origin, some concepts were abandoned or edited to better fit the screen. Ivan initially would have had long, wooden arm extensions as seen above, and would have walked on all fours. However, his lumbering figure was abandoned for a somewhat more relatable silhouette (the song Wooden Arms was included in the ending of the film as, among other things, a reference to his reduced appendages).
